SCR and DPF are both methods for aftertreatment. But do you really know their differences? Here we have summerized the details.
• Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR): The way it works is that by spaying the urea solution into the engine exhaust pipe, it gets hydrolyzed into ammonia by heat. Ammonia and NOx would then react with the aid of a catalyst and get converted into non-toxic nitrogen and water. SCR is aimed at reducing the amount of NOx in the engine exhaust.
• Particulate Filtering technology (EGR + DPF): The way it works is that by introducing the engine exhaust into the inlet pipe, the density of oxygen in the inlet air can be reduced, which then helps lowering the combustion temperature inside the cylinder and reducing the amount of NOx in the exhaust so that DPF can capture the particulates in the exhaust. It’s aimed at filtering the particulates in the engine exhaust.
